Frequently asked questions about commercial van fit-out

All frequently asked questions about van fit-out in one place: price, brands, installation, safety and service. Quickly find the answer for your van.

Price

What does a Guntro van fit-out cost?

Our fit-out is put together to measure, so the exact price depends on your van, your choice of material and the number of modules. To give you something to go on: a complete fit-out starts from around €1,500 (excl. VAT), while individual products cost less (modules from €300, floor drawers and racking from €500, each excl. VAT). A fit-out is also 100% deductible as a business expense. You always get a concrete bespoke quote, free and with no obligation to buy.

How quickly will I get a quote for my van fit-out?

A quote for your fit-out is ready quickly, free and with no obligation to buy. You give us your make, model and trade, and we put together a made-to-measure fit-out. That way you compare on the basis of a concrete proposal instead of a standard price that wouldn't be right for your van anyway.

What about the price of my fit-out?

On the product pages you will find a from-price (excl. VAT) as a guide price. We work out the exact price to measure, because the same modules cost something different in a compact L1H1 than in a large L3H3. That way you get a correct price for your van and your trade, instead of a fixed price that is always off. A quote is free and with no obligation to buy.

Should I choose steel or aluminium for my fit-out?

Steel and aluminium are equally strong; the right choice depends on your priorities. You choose steel for the sharpest price and the robust classic that can take a knock. You choose aluminium when weight matters: it is up to 30% lighter and does not rust, so you keep more payload and your electric van gets more range from a single charge.

Can I start small and expand later?

Yes, you can start small: our fit-out is modular, so you start with what you need today and add module by module. An extra drawer, cabinet or holder simply clicks into the existing system later, without you having to start over. That way your fit-out grows with your business, at your own pace and within your budget.

Does a van fit-out pay for itself?

Yes, a well-fitted van pays for itself in time: tradespeople save up to 30 minutes a day because every tool has a fixed place and searching becomes unnecessary. On top of that comes the resale value: a protected, undamaged load space sells better, and the fit-out itself moves with you to your next van. So you are not buying a cost, but a work tool that goes along every day.

Isn't it cheaper to build a fit-out yourself?

Building a wooden fit-out yourself seems cheaper, but it costs you more in the long run: wood often weighs twice as much as aluminium, is not crash-tested and slides forward in an emergency stop. Our fit-out is certified (TÜV GS, ECE R17, CE), gets up to 40% more out of the same load space and stays an asset when you sell, instead of something that has to be torn out. Over the lifespan of your van, that difference quickly pays for itself.

Brands

Will a Guntro fit-out fit in my van?

Yes, almost certainly: our fit-outs fit virtually every make and model of van, from a compact L1H1 to a large L3H3. The layout is drawn up to suit your vehicle and your work, with millimetre precision around wheel arches, door openings and fixing points. Not sure about your model? We know the dimensions of every van.

Which van brands does Guntro make fit-outs for?

We fit out vans of virtually every common brand: including Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Iveco, KIA, MAN, Maxus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota, Volkswagen and BYD, in all length and height combinations. We also measure up older or less common models and fit them out to match. On the brand pages you will find the models and points of attention for each brand.

Can a Guntro fit-out go into a leased van?

Yes, our fit-out can go into a leased van: the modules are fitted to the vehicle's original mounting points and can be fully dismantled, so you hand the van back neatly at the end of your contract. Agree the conditions with your leasing company beforehand; we will provide the technical documentation.

Can a fit-out go into an electric van?

Yes, our fit-out can go into an electric van: it is installed on the original mounting points, without touching the battery or the on-board electronics. For electric models we recommend aluminium, because it is up to 30% lighter than steel at the same strength. That way you keep payload and range for your work.

Will a fit-out cost me range on my electric van?

A fit-out hardly costs you any range if you build light: aluminium modules weigh up to 30% less than steel at the same sturdiness and anchoring. Every kilo you don't haul along is a kilo your battery doesn't have to move. Together with you, we look at how much weight you can save compared with your current or planned fit-out.

Do I lose load space with a fit-out?

No, quite the opposite: a smart fit-out gets up to 40% more usable load space out of the same van. Cabinets and racking use the walls and the height, floor drawers use the space under the load floor and a roof rack takes over the long, light material. We draw up the layout beforehand, so you see exactly how much free floor you have left.

Can my fit-out move with me to my next van?

Yes, our fit-out moves with you to your next van: the system is assembled with screws and can therefore be taken apart. When you change vehicle, your cabinets, drawers and racking are dismantled and rebuilt in your new vehicle with adapter pieces, even if it is a different make or size. Your investment thus lasts longer than your van.

Is there any drilling in my van?

No, installing our fit-out does not mean drilling into your bodywork at random: the modules are anchored to the mounting points the manufacturer itself provides in the vehicle. That keeps the intervention in your van minimal and the fit-out can be fully dismantled. That is a big advantage with a leased vehicle and it protects the resale value when you sell.

Does my van's factory warranty stay valid after installation?

Yes. We fit to the mounting points the manufacturer itself provides in your vehicle, so your van's factory warranty remains valid after installation.

I have ordered a new van. When should I schedule the fit-out?

The best moment to plan your fit-out is together with the order of your new van: the installation is then reserved right after your delivery date and you start without losing a single day. Want to be able to drive off fitted out straight away? We schedule the installation shortly and directly after your van is delivered. Discuss that scenario beforehand with the seller of your van and with us; in consultation, more is often possible than you think.

Does a fit-out also fit in a small van?

Yes, a fit-out also fits in a small van, and that is exactly where it makes the biggest difference: in a compact L1H1, the walls, the height and the space under the floor are relatively worth the most. Made-to-measure cabinets use the full height and a floor drawer turns the dead space under the load floor into a pull-out storeroom. We measure your vehicle and design the layout to measure.

Installation

How long does installing a van fit-out take?

How long the installation takes depends on your fit-out. A smaller fit-out we fit quickly; a complete fit-out usually takes around two working days. After you accept your quote, we usually schedule the installation within about two weeks, so you are soon on the road with your fitted-out van.

Who installs my fit-out?

Our fit-out is installed by our own fitters, not by you with an instruction manual. We take care of the whole process: advice, measuring, layout design and installation. That way you can be sure everything is anchored in line with the certification.

Is the layout tailored to my trade?

Yes, the layout of your fit-out is tailored to your trade and your work sequence: what you need on every job goes at the front and within easy reach. An electrician gets small-parts sorting and reel holders, a plumber pipe troughs, a courier sorting racks in route order. We go through your typical working day and draw up the layout accordingly.

Can I have parts added later?

Yes, adding parts is always possible: our system is modular, so new cabinets, drawers or holders click into the existing fit-out. Extending is also faster than the first installation, because the base system is already in place. One visit to us is usually enough to update your fit-out.

Can my layout be rearranged if my work changes?

Yes, the layout of our fit-out can be rearranged when your work changes: you move or replace modules without replacing the existing fit-out. If you get new tools, your team grows or you change speciality, the fit-out simply grows with you. That way your fit-out always keeps fitting your work, rather than the other way round.

Do I lose working days because of the installation?

No, you normally lose no working days because of the installation: a standard fit-out we fit quickly; a complete fit-out is usually ready within two working days. You simply schedule it for a day that suits you, and for larger bespoke work you get a clear schedule beforehand so you know exactly when your van will be ready.

Safety

Is a Guntro fit-out certified?

Yes, every fit-out of ours is certified: TÜV GS, ECE R17 and CE, and crash-tested at 50 km/h. The modules are anchored to the mounting points of your vehicle, so the whole thing stays in place even when fully loaded. In an inspection or a dispute after damage, you stand considerably stronger with those certificates than with a self-build.

Does everything stay in place in an emergency stop?

Yes, in an emergency stop our fit-out stays in place: the system is crash-tested (TÜV GS, ECE R17, CE) and professionally anchored to the mounting points of your van. The drawers lock while driving, so they can't slide open. If you also want to secure loose cargo, combine the fit-out with lashing rails, lashing bars and straps.

Is load securing a legal requirement?

Yes, load securing is a legal requirement: your load must stay in place while driving and this is checked at roadside inspections. A loose or poorly secured load can result in a fine and makes you liable in the event of damage or an accident. With a TÜV GS- and CE-certified system of lashing rails, bars and straps, built in line with the European directive 2014/47/EU, you meet that obligation without having to think about it on every trip.

How dangerous is a loose load in a van?

A loose load in a van is one of the biggest risks on the road: according to the European Commission, loose or poorly secured loads are involved in 25% of road accidents with commercial vehicles. In an emergency stop, an unsecured cabinet or machine shoots forward, straight towards the cab. A certified fit-out with load securing keeps everything in place, trip after trip.

Am I in a stronger position with my insurer with a certified fit-out?

A certified, professionally fitted system strengthens your case in any dispute after damage: it shows in black and white that, as a professional, you did what you could to secure your load. For the specific terms of your policy, it is best to check with your insurer. We provide you with all the documentation for the fitted system.

What does a bulkhead do in a collision?

A bulkhead is the last barrier between your load and your cab in a collision or emergency stop: our bulkhead is tested for impact loads and anchored to the bodywork. It is shaped exactly to the cab wall of your model, so you lose no load space. If you also secure your load at the source with load securing, the blow never even comes.

How do I store my tools safely in the drawers?

Your tools are stored neatly and securely in the drawers, with safety stops so nothing slides out while driving. The drawers themselves cannot be locked. For security, rely on the locks of your van itself, combined with a good working habit: do not leave valuable tools unattended in the van.

Is a self-built wooden fit-out safe?

No, a self-built wooden fit-out is not safe for everyday professional use: it is not crash-tested, is rarely anchored properly and slides forward in an emergency stop. Wood is also considerably heavier, so you give up payload. A certified fit-out (TÜV GS, ECE R17, CE) is secured according to the rules: safer on every trip and stronger in any dispute after damage.

Is a Guntro fit-out safe in an electric van?

Yes, our fit-out is just as safe in an electric van: every fit-out is crash-tested (TÜV GS, ECE R17, CE) and professionally anchored, in electric models too. The installation is made to measure for your model, without touching the battery or the on-board electronics. Everything stays firmly in place, even in an emergency stop.

Service

What warranty do I get on a Guntro fit-out?

On every fit-out from us you get a full 5-year fit-out warranty, from the biggest cabinet to the smallest holder. That warranty runs through us as the official Belgian distributor, so you have one point of contact for your entire load space. That way you know in advance exactly where you stand, in writing.

What if something on my fit-out breaks?

If something on your fit-out breaks, simply contact us. We arrange the repair and carry it out. If the defect falls within the 5-year fit-out warranty, it costs you nothing.

Do parts remain available for older fit-outs?

Yes, parts for our fit-outs remain available for years, including for older systems. A worn guide, divider or panel can therefore be replaced without renewing the whole fit-out. That way your system stays fully usable for its entire lifespan.

Who is my point of contact after installation?

After installation, Guntro remains your permanent point of contact: for repairs, extensions, parts and advice. So you do not have to call a factory abroad; we arrange everything close to you. If you change vehicles, we also support the transfer of your fit-out.

Does the warranty cover all parts of my fit-out?

Yes, the 5-year fit-out warranty covers your entire fit-out: cabinets, drawers, racking, roof racks, load securing and accessories. For built-in third-party systems, such as the Clayton Power energy system, the exact warranty period is confirmed in your quote. That gives you one warranty and one point of contact for your whole load space.

Will my fit-out outlast my van?

Yes, our fit-out generally outlasts your van: the system is fitted with screws and simply moves with you to your next vehicle when you change vans. Parts remain available for years and the modular system is rebuilt in your new van with adapter pieces. Your investment pays off across several vans.

Practical

Is a van fit-out tax deductible?

Yes. A van fit-out is 100% deductible as a business expense. Feel free to ask your accountant for the details for your situation.

How soon after my quote can the installation start?

Once you have accepted the quote, we generally schedule the installation within about two weeks. A full fit-out of the whole van usually takes us about two working days.

Can I have a fit-out installed in a leased van?

Yes, that is possible. Do check with your leasing company what is expected when the vehicle is returned.

Can my existing fit-out be removed, or moved to my next van?

Both are possible. We remove an existing fit-out and, if you wish, transfer your fit-out to your next van. This is done on a time basis, charged on the hours actually worked.

Does the fit-out count at the vehicle inspection?

A fixed fit-out is regarded as load under Belgian law. At the inspection, your van is weighed complete, including the fit-out. So stay within the maximum permitted weight of your vehicle.

Will I get a design of my fit-out beforehand?

Yes. Every customer receives a 3D design of the fit-out beforehand, so you know exactly how your van will be laid out before we start.
