Securing your van: your load space stays locked

Securing your van starts with the two doors a burglar gets in through: the rear door and the sliding side door. An extra lock with its own cylinder is separate from your van’s central locking. On some versions it locks automatically as soon as you slam the door shut.

  • Its own cylinder: separate from the locks that come with your van
  • Closes automatically: with a slam lock, slamming the door is enough
  • The two weak points: rear door and sliding side door
  • Your working day keeps going: no day lost after a break-in

What a break-in really costs

Above all, you protect the days on which you could not otherwise work

One morning you find yourself facing an open rear door. Your machines are gone, but that is only the start. You have to cancel today’s customer, tomorrow’s too, and you drive to the shop first instead of to the site.

Securing your van is about more than the value of your materials. It is about the days on which you cannot work afterwards, and about a van that stands broken into at the garage while your jobs carry on.

Did you know that most break-ins happen through the sliding side door? It is on the kerb side, out of sight of the street.

You get a second lock that only your key opens

Every van of that model has the same locking. Whoever knows where it is weak, knows it for thousands of vans at once. And your central locking secures all doors with one mechanism: a single weak point is enough.

An extra lock works completely independently of that, with its own cylinder and its own key. That is exactly why you add it: not because your van is poor, but because the second bolt is not the same as the first.

Did you know that an extra lock is also visible from the outside? Anyone in a hurry picks the van next to yours.

Slam it shut or turn the key

A lock that suits the way you work

In and out twenty times a day, or twice. That difference decides which lock suits you. If you deliver all day, you never lock up with a key: it takes time and you forget.

That is why there are three types. A slamlock locks by itself when you slam the door shut. A deadlock you turn shut deliberately. A hybrid can do both, so you choose per trip. See which version suits your working day at security locks for your van.

Did you know that a slamlock also locks when you just go to fetch something? Exactly the moment when break-ins happen most often.

Does it really have to be drilled?

This lock is fixed through your sheet metal and does not come off

A lock you stick on can be taken off again. If someone pulls at it with a crowbar, glue or a clamp will not help.

A security lock is fixed through the door, so the force lands on the sheet metal instead of on the fixing. That requires drilling, at fixed points that are known for each make and model. A good fitter works with a drilling template, not by eye.

Not allowed to drill? Then there is one version that goes on your door without holes: the UFO Temporary. It locks manually, has one locking point and is fitted in 25 minutes. It holds back less than a lock that goes through the sheet metal, and UFO itself calls it a temporary solution. On a rental or lease van where you may not change anything, it is the only way. Feel free to ask us about it.

Did you know there is a drilling template for every model? It fixes to the millimetre where the holes go.

What to look for

What sets a real security lock apart

Securing your van is more than adding a bolt. These are the points that make the difference.

Its own cylinder

Separate from your van’s central locking, with its own key.

Hardened steel

The housing is made to resist drilling and breaking, not to look pretty.

Rear door and side door

The two entrances to your load space, both can be secured.

Automatic locking

With a slamlock, slamming the door is enough. Nothing to forget.

Or with the app

The smart version opens via your phone and works with temporary keys.

A visible deterrent

A second lock on the door can be seen from the outside. That weighs in a burglar’s choice.

The products you use to secure your van

Securing your van does not stop at the door. A lock keeps it shut, the rest keeps your materials in place and out of sight.

Frequently asked questions about securing your van

What does it cost to secure your van?

What securing your van costs depends on the number of doors, the version you choose and your make and model. Your quote is ready quickly, with the fitting included.

What is the difference between a slamlock and a deadlock?

A slamlock locks by itself as soon as you slam the door shut: you do not have to do anything and you cannot forget it. A deadlock you turn shut deliberately with the key. A hybrid version can do both, so you choose per trip.

Does my door have to be drilled?

With most versions, yes. A lock that is only glued or clamped on will not stop a crowbar, so the fixing goes through the sheet metal, at fixed points that are known for each make and model. If drilling is not allowed, for example on a rental or lease van, there is the UFO Temporary: it goes on the door without holes, locks manually and has one locking point.

Can the sliding side door be secured too?

Yes, and it is often the most important one. The side door is on the kerb side, out of sight of the street and of you.

What if I lose my key?

The cylinder works with its own key, separate from your van’s. If you lose it, the cylinder is replaced; we arrange that. So keep a spare key, and not in the van.

Can someone else open my load space?

With the smart version, yes. It works via an app, with access rights per person and keys that expire after a set time. Handy when a colleague or a customer needs to get to the load while you are not there.

Does it really help, or does a thief just move on?

Both, and the second is exactly the point. A burglar picks the quickest van. A visible second lock makes your van the slowest in the row.

How long does fitting take?

The lock itself takes anywhere from a few minutes to just under an hour, depending on the version. Plan it together with the rest of your fit-out, so your van is only off the road once.

Is this also possible on an existing or leased van?

Yes. For the impact on your van warranty or your lease contract, it is best to check with your vehicle supplier or leasing company before you decide.
